From version 7.1-4056 an online activation is required for adding Surveillance Station camera licenses. Any shared, hacked, cracked or generator license key will be spotted as invallid by the Synology activation server. To prevent software license problems, you should only buy your license key from registered Synology partners like INNOCAM.

So what's different?
There are a few new and prominent features as of version 7.0, the key one being a complete overhaul of the interface. Upon launching SS, you will no longer be bought to an entire inclusive suite, but rather an interface that is very similar to the standard interface that Synology uses. You are able to launch individual apps within Surveillance station.

Further apps can be dragged to the dashboard or accessed from the menu button. I will go over these apps further below.
What do the individual apps do?
Not having everything in one place can be a little overwhelming at first, however once you're familiar with this new interface you will find it more convenient and faster to navigate. I will be going over each app below.
First of all we have the Live View App, which is pretty self
explanatory. Opening this app will display the cameras that you have added to surveillance station. You can manage the layout of the cameras here too. If you have PTZ cameras you can also control them in the live view app using the controller.
The next app is the Timeline app. In timeline, you can view past recordings that you have captured. You can easily select the date from the calendar. you are capable of viewing multiple cameras at once in sync with each other. Motion detection is highlighted in green to make for quick and reliable searching. Playback speed can be set to as high as 8x and you also have the ability to export recordings from here.
The next app is the 'IP camera' app. This app will focus on what cameras you have added to Surveillance station and what settings you wish to configure with the cameras e.g Motion detection from within the camera or Synology itself. You can add up to two cameras without having to purchase additional licenses here. You can further organise the cameras within the list by creating groups.
The next default app isn't so much of an app as a folder where the recording is stored. You can open this folder and use it as an alternate method of downloading your recordings. You can also 'lock' recordings to prevent them from being deleted which can come in handy. The 'snapshots' folder is basically the same as this one, but includes screenshots you've taken rather than recordings.
The next app is located in the task menu rather than on the home screen by default. This is Smart search. Smart search allows you to view cameras with motion detection enabled and from here you can highlight a specific area of the frame and only motion that occurs in that part of the frame will be logged. When you have defined an area to scan and hit play, it will play through the video in high speed. Moments where motion is detected in the area are logged below. Sensitivity can easily be controlled
The last noteworthy app would be the 'user' app which will allow you to add and control different user aspects. You must have already crated a separate user for the synology box in order to add or remove privileges. You can't add a user from this space.
