My license to use render.dll with I2K came with IntelliCAD 98. There
is nothing in that license to prevent me from using it with any version
of IntelliCAD. That license protects the owners of the IP (render.dll,
etc.) from people copying and redistributing to others (reselling) as
well as from people using their IP as a basis for new works.

The license was not written with the assumption that render.dll or any
other component would be usable without modification with a future
version of IntelliCAD (especially one from a not-quite-open-source
entity) and doesn't protect from that use.

We also do not agree on the interpretation of derivative works. There
is nothing derivative about using a file that I have paid for. Now, if
I used that .DLL as the basis to create a new .DLL, that would be a
derivative work.

One of the concepts behind IntelliCAD is to use existing programs
without modification. I'd like to hear how you can defend that feature
while at the same time saying render.dll cannot be used by I2K users.
If I licensed a LISP file for use with AutoCAD and I use IntelliCAD to
execute the LISP routine, am I in violation of the license? (Assume the
license is the same) Of course not. That was a huge selling feature
of IntelliCAD 98 and Visio/Microsoft would have a potential liability
to sort out.
